Phase one in which Dorris gets her oats....

Or whatever the hell John Lennon says in the intro to Two of Us.

New Edition to Addtion to... Is that a homonym?  Addition/Edition
huh, he said homo...

Addition/Edition/Addition/Edition -- for an American, these two words
are pronounced exactly the same, like close and clothes, but in that
stupid linguistic pronunciation chart, they would be different.  They are
not.  They are basically homonyms.  I said homo again, but HAH MO
NIM -- Nims a funny word, reminds me of nimrod.  Fu#@ing English,
Americanism, bastard son of the Queen's English.  Bottle of waotah --
boddle of wahdder.  It's not clo-thes, it's close.  I bought some new close.
That's how it sounds.  That's how it is.  That's enough.

New addition to the list of my comfort music, Let it Be by the Beatles.

I'm tastefully toasted right now.  Contemplating my financial future.
Just got off the horn with my broker.  He says go long.
And he said, you should drink soju instead of beer, to save money.

Actually, I've been itching to cash out of here and head to greener pastures.
I told my family last winter when I visited Cali in February, yeah I'm going to
re-sign (re-sign/resign)  More word play, what a kick in the teeth.

for another year long contract, but I'm not going to stay
the full duration.  I will leave once it gets cold.  Really cold.  It's cold now, but it's
LA cold, which isn't really cold at all, November, piece of cake.  December, well
it'll be cold but by January it'll be biting.  I don't want to be here come January.

I wanted to cash out of Korea sometime in the next 3 months, give notice, do it all
legal, but that's not going to happen,
unless I leave my money behind in the hopes that my savings will revalue itself.
I'm so sick of this place unless I'm drunk.  Reminds me of my last two girlfriends.

Okay enough.  LONG PAUSE.  Be positive.  I'm just thankful that I have a roof over
my head, a steady income, food on the table, and a job I don't despise.

I'm truly thankful to have what I have because (cuz) that is a lot more than a
lot of people have on this planet.  I should be thankful.  I am.

I'm thankful.   Sincerely.  I'm so glad I didn't tender my resignation or burn any bridges
prematurely.

While we're talking about classic rock(and in attempt to change the subject),
my older brother, a audiophile like myself, once told
me, well asked me, actually, "Eric, do you know what separates, Good bands from Great bands?"
What he meant was, why are the Beatles
and the Stones and the Who and Led Zeppelin and Pink
Floyd better than other bands, who are almost equally as engaging, like Van Halen or Aerosmith or
________ insert band here...

I asked him, why, Mike?  His reason was, all the aforementioned bands had double albums.
I'm showing my age now.  Albums, records.  Pre-mp3, pre-downloading, pre-cassettes, pre-8 track
cartridges, there were records. Records.   Record, RecOrd.

Record.  It's not a homonym, what do you call a word that is spelled the same, but is pronounced
differently and has two different meanings?  Like progress, progress    excuse, excuse  resume,
resume record, record-- the list goes on:  I don't know, please tell me, readers....one's a noun
one's a verb, same word, diifferent pronunciation, different part of speech.

But we're talking records and what we bought back in the late 70's and early 80's and all through
the 80's was records.  And most people produced single albums then.  Each side was 15 to 18 minutes,
maximum.  If you were recording an album onto a 90 minute TDK or MAXEL cassette, which was
common in the 80's cuz cassette players were ubiquitious -- they were in your car, Sony created
the 1st walkman, which was a cassette player -- Boom Boxes played cassettes (or radio), you
could fit an entire album on one side of the cassettte.

For anybody born in the late 80's or 90's who is now an "adult" this may be mind blowing information.  We listened to records.

Which begs the question:  Tape cassettes are obviously analog, and CD's/MP3 music is obviously digital cuz, well, one main property  distinguishing digital from analog from digital is that in Analog media, you have to
scroll forward or back, that is fast forward or rewind through the entire song or move or book.
Digitial, you are immediately there.  So an album, you just pick up the needle and move it.  A book,
you just flip the page.  Are they digital?  Of course they are not, but records and books are magic pieces
of media in that, they have a estheticism to them that computer downloads and ripped cds lack.

Okay, let's get back to my point -- Pink Floyd made the wall, Led Zep had Physical Graphitti, the Who had Tommy
and Quadrophenia.  Beatles had their White Album, The Stones Exile on Main Street.
That is why they are better.  They had so much
new music written that they needed two discs to hold it all.  In this light, you can add the
Clash London Calling,  or even Sandanista (triple album)
The Minutemen Double Nickels on the Dime and many others.
And you can.  My brother is kind of a simpleton, not really, he's actually quite smart,
but his point is well taken.  Artists who exceed their media's limitations are superior to those
whose work fall within their framework.  Greatest Hits and Double Live's don't count in this.
It's only new original music.

Yes, certain single albums were groundbreaking, but in the length of life, nothing but
a double album of original music really compares.  I've never heard them, but I guess Husker
Du falls into this category of greatness.

While the rule Less is More (Leslie Moore) exists, so does the rule More is Better.

And all the aforementioned double albums, including everything Pink Floyd has ever done, are
in fact, comfort music.  Come in here dear boy have a cigar yer gonna go far.  Yer gonna fly high
yer never gonna die yer gonna make it your time they're gonna love you.

My final point is --- my next few posts are going to be two and three parters.  My subjects will be Communism,
Atrocities and Asia.

They will not fit on a single blog.  Stay tuned.
